Something More

You're more than just a graduate,
Who dons a cap and gown
Who stands at full attention
To represent your town
*
The total sum of learning
You've gained all through the years
Is more than facts and figures,
Consorting with your peers
*
The steady maturation
That started way back when
Has come to full fruition;
What change from now to then!
*
You were, back then, a novice
Your intellect quite low
Your zeal was at a high point
With great desire to know
*
The shift, it came, and subtle
As wisdom filtered in
She crowned your head with graces
Where doubt and tears had been
*
By careful cultivation
You've reached the happy mile
Instruction and correction:
But reaching all the while
*
Don't rest upon your laurels
A newer, brighter day
Awaits, and you'll attain it
By growing all the way
*
