Something New

Started off as a simple fling,

Never really thought much of it.

Some stares and stealing smiles,

There was nothing really there.

Teasing texts, talking through the night;

You were the first that made me feel,

Feel feelings never felt before.

Something new, and something fresh

Like waking up in the middle of a long road trip,

And looking out the window at a new view;

Something I’ve never seen before.

And I knew-

If I could just get closer

I could experience it

And take it all in.

That was my plan all along;

Take all of you in.

Soak in your personality,

Hope for some to rub off

Onto me, and make me be

A little more like you.

Being like you is desirable;

Would make me feel admirable,

But that can’t be,

Because I am I and you are you.

But you were something new;

Opening up my eyes-

And then I knew.

Or maybe I knew before,

But that doesn’t really matter,

Because now I know.

And it got messy from there;

I’m sorry,

But it was all so new.

And you were familiar,

There won’t be anyone similar.

Because you were the first,

First is the worst.

I fell hard and it hurt.

The realization that it wouldn’t happen

Was shoved in my face.

Like you were tired of me,

And wanted me off your back,

But could you see

That I was scared,

Feeling feelings never felt before?
