Something New

There's no shouting in this household.

I must say it's rather strange.

No 'hushed' clashes 'tween the parents,

And I wait for it to change.

Could it be I was mistaken?

Could it be that this is true?

Is it better when it's peaceful?

Is it sad that this is new?

I suppose it's simply diff'rent.

It's not like I was abused.

They weren't arguing just- speaking.

But when mom's face is wet

With tears she won't admit he'd caused,

And we hide away from him

We will still pretend it's all okay.

I hate pretending that I'm perfect.

Yet I don't know what to do

When these people say it's alright.

All we want from you is you.

I'm not good enough for fam'ly,

Yet they say that I'm okay.

How can they know; they don't know me.

Why would they want me to stay?

I don't know how to accept this,

This judgeless home that let me in,

Where no-one yells, and I'm enough

And I don't worry that it'd be better if I went away.
