Something to Say

A little girl, quiet

Sat there in the aisle

Staring across the room,

Looking on with a smile

Touched and excited

She watched the hands fly

While the speaker inspired,

The signs made her cry

To know more of this mystery

This language of beauty

She sat there in thought,

Resolved that her duty

Must be to convince

Her mother and dad

That she must learn this language

That it made her heart glad

The answer, when told

Brought joy to her heart

And she ran off to class

Excited to start

But there was not one her age

At all in the room

To see the people much older,

Did her heart fill with gloom?

Not at all, for understand

She was happy and bright

Her heart filled with joy

And her spirit with might

To be learning this thing

That her soul had desired

She was filled with a passion

And did not grow tired

As the years they passed on

And she still worked through

To focus and learn

While she herself grew

When seven years later

She was no longer a child

In the same room she stood

Glanced around, and smiled

For her childish dream

Was accomplished that day

Now her hands were the ones

With something to say
