Somewhere I Fell in Love

Somewhere along the way I fell in love,

With words and rhyme and metaphor.

It was somewhere between reading

Robert Frost and singing Emily Dickinson.

It was somewhere between a journal,

A keyboard, and a class presentation.

It was somewhere between loving repetition,

And wishing to be better at subtlety.

It was somewhere between ink covered hands,

And the tear stained pages of my diary.

It was somewhere between eccentric teachers,

And lists of terms like polyptoton and couplet.

It was somewhere between the poems

I first wrote in a required English class,

And all the poems I write now.

It was somewhere I can’t pinpoint,

Because my love is everywhere now.
