Somewhere Today; Fear
Somewhere today;
There is a boy walking through the hallways of his school, his feet dragging along the ground, his head held down, his eyes droopy, his ears ringing, his hands shaking.
While others giggle in joy with friends, he shies away because he fears of rejection and people.
Somewhere today;
A young girl paces backstage, preparing herself for a performance but fear latched onto her back and suddenly the world sets their eyes on her.
She sings and she dances, but fear is so persistent that she forgets the lyrics and she stumbles on her feet.
Somewhere today;
A girl fidgets in her dress and heels, playing with her clammy fingers, trying to work up the courage to ask her crush for a dance.
When she finally talks herself into walking up to the guy, she stops dead in her tracks when she hears the taunting laughter of the three pretty girls behind her, the burning stare of the judgeful eyes that surround her, the smell of doubt, and the seemingly long distance between her and the nearest exit.
Somewhere today;
A high school senior wants more for himself. He wants bigger, bolder, better. He wants to go to college, get a degree, get a good job and someday marry a pretty girl and have ten kids with her.
But, people told him no. People told him he couldn’t do it. People told him he wasn’t good enough and eventually he starts to believe he isn’t good enough. Thoughts of resentment cloud his mind and he can’t seem to break the wall that keeps his courage and determination under lock and key.
Somewhere today;
Dozens of people become victims to bullying. They cry and they scream for help, but they never seem to plea when anyone is around. Instead, they wallow in misery and let fear pull them into the darkest corner of their room where no one can see the bitter tears or hear the painful wailing.
Fear consumes my body. Fear invades my mind. Fear manipulates my feelings, my words and everything in between.
Fear is what makes my ears bleed with denial.
Fear is what lit my eyes on fire, causing them to sting and blur.
Fear is what sews my mouth shut using the frightening point of a needle.
Fear is what pulls me away from the one hand that finally appeared from a shining light.
Fear is the ocean where my feelings are swimming under water in the deepest, darkest abyss.
Fear is the cause of my fall into complete darkness when I was only one step away from reaching the sun.
Fear is what made the world so cold.
Fear is pain and depression, loneliness and darkness, doubt and misery.
Fear broke me and made me scream like a banshee.
I wailed, “Fear I’ve had enough!”
“No more,” I cried,
“You will no longer contain me.”
