Son of Hades

The son of Hades is a strange one.

Someone who knows everyone yet flees from them before a relationship has begun.

His name is Zagreus, a rebellious teenager.

Born to chase freedom, or succumb to labor.

His father, Hades, is a work-stricken, bitter old man.

Traits his son would never understand.

They had everything they ever wanted, and more possibly.

Yet, Hades worked and worked, leaving Zagreus improperly.

The Son of Hades was a rascal, a misfit at worst.

In reality, he was jealous of these children, feeling cursed.

Cursed with the burden to carry his father's mantle.

A mantle he knew he would leave unsubstantial.

The Son of Hades longed for freedom, away from his father.

To a place far away so he wouldn't be bothered.

He knew everyone as everyone knew him.

He hated the notoriety, the places he wasn't allowed in.

He wanted to change, for his own thoughts.

But also to stop others from thinking he's someone he's not.

He was not this selfish, angry boy, who would fight anyone in his way.

The Son of Hades was a kind, gentle young man, who just wanted to go far away.

Away to a place that truly understood.

His plights, hardships, and perceptions of good.

He would no longer be known as Zagreus, Son of Hades.

He would be known as Zagreus, Son of the Free.
