A Sonet for Brette
What must I do to win your heart?
How far must I go to prove myself?
If I were to scale the highest peak, would you be there atop the snowcapped summit?
If I were to dive into the deepest sea, would you lift me back up to breathe?
If I were to ford the widest river, would you be there waiting on the distant shore?
What am I compared to you?
You are a princess; I am like a peasant, a lowly commoner, undeserving of your love.
You are my heart's desire; I am like a leper, an outcast, unworthy to be in your presence
You are the only thing worth living for, but what am I?
I am not perfect, I fall short of the mark
Bit if you find it in the kindness of your heart, spare me from this agony; bring light to my darkness
Catch me before I fall; save me before I lose myself
I would be eternally grateful
My love for you is agape; I am your servant
Giving everything; expecting nothing in return.
