Song in My Heart

I feel like there’s too many words in my head

But not enough time to capture them all

And the song in my heart

Well, that’s even more confusing

The notes dangling out of my reach

A melody forged by my very own vibrating heartstrings

But unfamiliar even to me

Unfamiliar, but more unsaid

What use are words

If they never reach anyone

If they are left buried, a lonely melody?

I wrote down these words that weren’t sincere

I could be like that to myself

And I comforted myself saying

The only thing I can do

Is hide behind my words

Never saying them out loud

Only writing them down

Before they dare escape my lips

And be ruined forever

But saying them out loud

Helped them make sense

To someone else out there

Someone would hear it,

And the mess that is my heart’s melody

Became something they could understand

The song in my heart swelled

Because it was heard

And it was accompanied for once

It was understood

And finally, it wasn’t ashamed
