The Song of a Soul

     You are song.

My favorite song actually.

I know every line of every verse.

I know every chord and every drum beat.

I know when the singer starts to stutter and tear up because they are putting everything they have into every syllable.

I know the way your words affect people.

I know that you don't believe you are as perfect as I tell you.

I know you smile and shrug when you don't know the answer to a question.

I know that you are mesmerized by the way the stars appear slowly then all together.

I know that you hate when people pay all of their attention to you.

It took me years to be able to tell you how beautiful you are and have you believe it.

             You watch people cautiously.

Hidden behind a curtain of your often untamed hair.

Not wanting them to catch you staring.

Wanting them to notice you the way you are noticing them.

You love too hard even when people don't deserve it.

You love talking about the crazy things you have done.

You love making people laugh and laughing with them so hard you can barely blurt out the punchline of your own joke.

You don't care what people think, not really.

You know that you are amazing and beautiful.

You've never hesitated to check yourself out or admire your reflection.

You love to sing, even on bad days when you're almost too tired to get out of bed because you've been singing to yourself all night.

You're scared to lose your voice because singing gives you so much joy.

Even the few people who tell you to shut up admire your voice when you're singing.

Full of yourself as you are, you couldn't be called conceded because you care far more about everyone else than you do about yourself.

You sometimes start to think that you're fat, but then you stand in front of a mirror or a store window and you chuckle because you see that you still look perfect.

You write on your hands and arms, your favorite song lyrics so that you can read them and hear the singer's voice in your ear.

You beam and gush about your favorite musicians and how amazing they are, about your favorite songs and the way they make you feel.

Always wanting other people to hear them so they can get a taste of the euphoria.

You don't like seeing people upset so you always try to get close to them and offer comforting words.

If they don't want to talk, you make them laugh.

About the stupidest thing you can think of.

Because the feeling you get from making someone laugh makes your heart swell and your face flush from laughing.

You wrap them in a hug and help them laugh away their tears.

Making them forget why they were crying in the first place.

You are an angel in the body of a mortal,

Cast down to make people feel alive.

You live your life as happy as anyone has ever been knowing that you are doing your job.

You can't imagine what it would be like to not make people smile.

You can never stay mad at anyone, the anger is immediately washed away by a good memory that you share.

Casting away the shred of anger you had, you make a joke about why you were mad in the first place, eager to move to a more comic subject.

You get obsessed with books, and music, and bands.

Always lost in a song or a story

Be they written by yourself or someone else.

You live to be happy and make happiness.

The times you aren't making people smile you are sleeping.

Always true to yourself.

You are magnificent.

You are unbelievable.

You are me.
