Sonnet #24

I was a child who lazed around all day

Without a single care on planet Earth;

I let all of my studies fall astray,

Not at all caring for what they were worth.

It was once I was released into life,

Saw how everything worked, how it all flowed,

Sat through precarious hardship and strife,

That to me the burden of duty showed.

Responsibility made me a man:

I no longer have time to be a child,

Instead I have to do all that I can

To preserve my dreams from being exiled.

    Growing up is when you finally see

    That the price of freedom is never free.
