Sonnet of the Hurricane

Shall I compare thee to a hurricane?

Your destruction may not be as deadly,

But what you destroy brings me greater pain

Than any raging storm’s clashing medley.

The piercing rain that stings my exposed face

Freezes my heart that you have broken first.

And the emptiness of our last embrace

Is the quiet eye preceding the worst.

But one must admire a hurricane’s storm.

And I am entranced by your point of view.

I once fit seamlessly into your form,

How effortlessly my love for you grew.

I am trapped in your winds, a helpless dove

Unable to escape my hopeless love.
