Sonnet for a Northern Wind

You and I were a storm of all things good.

Two brisk Northern Winds, united in youth:

Running and laughing through great lonely woods,

Stubbornly scorning our impending truth.

We once were lovers for quite a short time-

Lips turning cold into sickly sweet bliss;

Still, fate couldn't leave me to call you mine.

We left off only with memories missed.

One dreadful day, by fault of my father,

I was pulled far away, leaving you there.

We had been bested by beasts of water

Whose hulls may boast they know not what is fair.

My sweet Northern Wind, my passion, my fire

That burns in my heart each day: my desire.
