To Soothe the Beast

Some nights it’s manageable This Beast, she struggles And others it’s unpredictable This Beast, she flexes There are only so many outlets Into your world Reality; where you slaughter the piglets Where newborns are hurled Unclothed, they shiver Inked, I am alive Unfed, they wither Fueled by papyrus, I thrive This Beast, wants out Needs to inflict pain This Beast, wishes to tout Her broken captor, who fought in vain She once escaped on a river of blood, The ruins of skin But that era is lost to the flood, One of ink, beginning again Only through the black slime Can she grasp my sorrow And be flushed away to the end of time To leave me whole again for tomorrow For what is writing, But thoughts on display Words that are shuffling Our neighbor’s feelings in every way Waves Of intensifying heat Inescapable inertia that bathes Everything in one liquefying beat From our souls, the pen borrows This Beast, she drowns in it Inky waves cool chaotic sorrows This Beast, she is the culprit
