Soul Sand
A past friend once inquired
"What are you like?"
I gripped my soul in fists
Tore it apart, shredded it up
And on each scrap, some would say
Emily, she's a cautious step
Wouldn't a jump sound naive and gay?
"That girl" whispers her peers
"What a rug!" they scream, dragging down their lower lids and sticking out their tongues
"Everybody steps all over the quiet girl!"
I rise from my seat and stand
I am a spender, time is all but everlasting
Me? I am a file tin, I remember most
Exclamations are odd, everthing starts with a question
But a straight line on a dot? Hah!
Dear, Dear winter, its dying leaves and chilling breath
Quiet, still, calm, tranquil, yeah, it is only I who possesses thee
I am a follower, oh how I wish I was not!
Funny how the former had an exclamation
But I would not dare to even lead an elder to his seat,
I can barely hold myself, one would perceive
Down, I'd much rather ravish my toes in the dirt
It is far more divine than wetting your nose on the clouds
Instead of choking on the lack of air above
"Emily gives all she can!" the kids wail
"She fails to speak clearly, even some teachers have said."
I am sand
I fall apart and I never help anything
But if you ever stumble across a marvelous beach terrain, look at the sand
It is always near something beautiful
And that is every single one of you
