Soul on the Shelf

She should be happy, says everyone else But when she wakes up, her soul's on the shelf So, empty inside, she walks out the door While the soul on the shelf is ready to soar But even apart, the soul feels her pain When she starts at a job that drives her insane Puts on a mask to cover her tears Shudders inside, freezing with fear The soul sits and watches as days become weeks She retreats inward, refusing to speak What should she say? How to explain? Being hollow inside on a sunshine day?
