The Soul Sucking Mask

The Soul Sucking Mask

Everyone see’s a pretty brown girl

Hair blonde, sometimes black or burgundy

Eyelashes curly, hair swinging, and lips popping

Yeah, she feels alright.

The attention, yeah she real fly

But beneath her smooth skin lies a rough surface

A surface so deep and ruthless it would drown an unborn child

Beneath every cell and pigment in her skin is a crack

A crack of her own uncertainty and hopelessness

But, wait now, oh wait just a minute

There’s a light in the deep, ominous black cracks

Imagination, Vibrance, Brilliance, and Love

Wait now lift the mask and scrub off the face paint

There it is, pure beauty lying from within

Filled with orange, pink, and yellow

But the mask which use to be gold and white

Has turned black and hidden her from herself

So black, it taints her skin and blinds her eyes

Don’t put it on child, please don’t do it

She looks at the mirror as it shatters

So She touches the mask as it pricks her skin

The Blood from her skin drips on her natural image

Yeah the mask soothes her like an addict and their drug

But the mask consumes her like an addict and their drug
