The sound of an airplane

The sound of an airplane overhead

brought back memories

of the silence in the sky

for days after

"the day" it seemed

all hope was lost!

"The day" so many had to fly to die,

had to soar so far away

to remind us

of our freedom and

the price we still must pay.

17 years and we live

in constant turmoil,

here at home and

in foreign lands.

Nothing is any different now,

yet everything has changed…
