The Sound of Change

Click, Click, Click.

I hear the keys clack, slick

against my nails as I type up the events for the year.

I received the calendar of events for band, and it became clear.

The simple pink paper with dozens of dates listed,

represents this change of mindset. Unassisted,

I inputted the calendar dates.

It was my job now. No longer like my classmates,

Would I rely on my mom like I used to.

This simple act allowed me to recognize responsibility, and I grew.

The homework dates that were told,

the calendar dates listed in bold,

the test dates that were to unfold,

All were times and dates that I had to have in my head.

I had to think on my own to not be misled.

This new chapter of high school,

everyone is worried to look like the fool.

Appearances are everything during this time.

And the bell rings and chimes,

now class has started and it represents,

the change that has occured in my life.

All the teachers expect us to be grown adults,

so I learn to continue to grow, then results,

in a more mature teenager that takes responsibility,

and she learns adaptability, civility, and dependability.
