Southern Hospitality

Southern Hospitality

I would like to welcome you to
where the trees are a little taller

the speed limit is non existent

where the melanin is more mixed
the accent is a little fixed

where the smell runs deep en mi abuelo kitchen
where the love of greens was born
and the country fried chicken
strong smells of burning leaves
and sweet barbecue

a nation’s favorite

each person has their own bubble

you can hear the animals talk, next to one another, snuggle.

welcome to the OG of Rhythm & Blues
nothing like soul
country describes view of  eyes and listening of ears

here hunting is the fifth season of the year

to the grounds covered with hills
of six legged crawlers instead of balls of snow

the leaf color turning slower and the wind blowing faster

where the sunrise is welcomed by the crowing of the chickens
the shade of sunset leaves a permanent  imprint

beautifully decorated in orange and reds
blending the bright dirt pigment

where the tans are browned tree trunks
more land of  space
more light of stars

the South is my dream away from home

I introduce you to the friend I will soon join

my roots bleed
the Southern life need

taken for granted

gifts of land and culture and beauty
it’s just good ole
