Space

Space is a subjective term It could be the air between two people Or the infinite expanse That surrounds us My space is a physical one The inability to feel No caressing of hair Not a gentle touch of the lips An emptiness Cold, dark, and soundless You will die if you stay there Asphyxiating all alone But the darkness is a blanket For some it is protection Space will keep you from harm But it is a double-edged sword The space will suck the life from you It is cruel and unforgiving So why aren't you? Why aren't I? There is a ruthlessness in space One best seen from a distance So why do we reach for the stars Why aren't we happy here Lock your doors Close your windows Atone for your sins For the space is here And space takes no prisoners
