the space between

Little brown child,

you are enough

from your curly, kinky black hair

to your flattened wide nose.

To them at 21 you are suppose to be dead,

but instead, you are the top nurse at the hospital you work in.

To them at 17 you are suppose to be pregnant,

but instead, you are valedictorian at your highschool.

The space between us and them,

the moment when you realize you could be so much more.

You have the right

the right to dream, inspire, create

its yours and no one can take it away.
