That spark
A million thoughts crowd my head
They are a mix of what society tells me I should be
What my parents want me to be
And a small portion,
very small,
In some distant region of my mind that speaks to my soul
That declares what kind of person I want to be
What I want my future to become
Slowly I clutch on to that spark
That distant voice
Pulling it closer so that it is within reach
But…
Do I dare
Do I dare become my inner demons,
hidden angels,
and repressed desire
What will they say?
society?
My parents?
My peers?
Can people accept the real me
Full of failures, anxieties, and pains
Can I trust them with a piece of me
Morally ambiguous in its construction
Neither light nor dark
but fully myself
How do I express myself in a society that values conformity?
How can humanity confine themselves to one set of ideals when we are all so different?
But most importantly why?
Why do we even want to emulate others when we can reflect our inner selves?
bright, bold, and brilliant.
