Speak Up

My friends are jumping off of bridges.

They’re dissecting their own wrists

Not talking about problems,

Just drowning them with pills.

Now their mothers are wearing black,

Mourning, day, and night.

Their teachers empty lockers,

And wonder how they could’ve made it right.

What if somebody noticed them?

What someone just asked?

What if instead of hating them,

Someone smiled when they passed?

This culture of silence is killing our young;

Everything has to change.

Speak up when you see the signs.

Don’t let friends suffer in silence.
