For a Special Friend

You’re different from anyone I have ever met,

After all that I have done and the mistakes I’ve made, you’ve never left,

You’re beyond special to me, partly because we were best friends first,

But mainly because you still think I’m the best even after seeing me at my worst,

I keep some distance between us nowadays though, and I apologize,

I’m scared of my feelings when I’m with you, and I’m intimidated by the look in your eyes,

I haven’t been treated right in a long time and I know that you would change that in a heartbeat,

But I haven’t given you that chance yet, the thought of us being something more doesn’t seem like reality,

It almost seems too good to be true,

Having it be just us two,

But I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t imagined it a thousand times in my head,

Love scares the hell out of me, and I’d almost rather shy away from it instead,

I always have so much fun when I’m with you, it’s clear that we mesh well,

I don’t have anyone else to blast Like a Stone with except you, and to me, that’s swell,

You’ve always been a gentleman to me and talked of me highly,

A future without you in it, seems very unlikely,

I could spend hours with you, singing, driving on dirt roads at 2 in the morning,

Or going further than that in life, spending days with each other, learning together, exploring,

I said I would write a poem about you, and this has been really tough,

Because I have so many things to say about you, this just isn’t enough,

So I’ll end it with this, you mean the world to me, I’ve had feelings for you all along,

And who knows? Maybe in the future, it’s with me that you belong.
