Speed

When blood courses through your veins glowing red hot

And you've cried rivers of a thousand oceans

Do you feel something else?

Is it a seething urge to defy the limits?

An insatiable impatience for change?

Your heart is as heavy as your foot

Which craves the spark of metal on metal

Your hands, wrinkled from pressure and perspiration

Grip the wheel as Poseidon his mighty sceptor

Wielding a mythical amount of power and dignity

Capable of transcending all your calamities

Your mind races the spinning tires

Burning the asphalt like anger clouding your heart

You know you need to get away

From the recurring injustice bringing you down

The frustration of sinking lower than the gravel

That is set ablaze with a touch of the gas

You've no destination, just fierce concentration

On the double yellow curves

And the instant you hit that straightaway

The troubled world twirls into a roundabout

You shove it all away and play the tough kid

Refusing to be broken when the steam rises

The rearview mirror says you're only bent

They say running from your problems isn't right

Yet these kinetic moments allow you to breathe

Temporarily sending bitterness out the open window

And resentment in its wake

It's the speed that frees your soul

That breaks the steel chain links

And lets you soar, lets you live

The incomparable sensation of liberation

Is kicked up like dust in the air

It is the breeze that sets your hair flying loose

As it becomes as light as your worries

Stallions under the hood stomp their hooves in triumph

Within the seconds from zero to sixty

In this moment you wonder if you could drive on forever

And never return to the seismic bumps in the road

Until you realize time is yours to control

So you turn off your wounded mind

And let the speed take you down a new avenue

What else should people know about me? Wellllll...... I first started writing when I was 5 years old. I initially wrote short stories for every holiday. The older I got, the longer my stories were as well. A few years ago, I branched out to my current passion: poetry. Now I write poetry more than anything else and use it to vent pretty much every emotion. I never miss a chance to thank the man upstairs for the gift of words. :)
