Splendid

If you were to grab a rose

by its gentle red petals

and tug it out've the ground

you would see

the clotted dirt

and tangled roots

and you would realize

that the beautiful

soft petals

would not exist

without the horrid roots

The same is true

with people

without

wars

death

heartbreak

and other ugly things

we would not blossom

into the splendid creatures

that we are.
