Splintered, on My Floor
Moored at the pier, I wonder vaguely where the earth curves.
But deep down, I know that I will never get my head around
The design of this globe that houses our vessels but not our minds.
You quietly invited me to your home, the driest dirt I've ever felt.
But honestly I was hesitant to let the yellow zinnia fall on you
And now these affairs I've lingered in tied me but won't unwind.
I fell into the blinking lights and the endless screens, blindsided only by
Pieces of you. An empty voice is the only one who completes
My thought patterns. Otherwise,
They spiral and spiral.
Sun, I can't forgive you. And moon? I feel betrayed.
Stricken with a fear, I wander aimlessly, counting these fathoms.
But deep down, the surface soon seems farther and farther and
Less and less welcoming, assuming the role of a reminder, not a friend.
You screamed at me to disembark, your anger was not unfounded.
But honestly I was more inclined to silently drift away from you
Even though I'm aware that these circles we crash into never end.
I flew into the rumbling skies and the seas without cease, blindsided only by
Shadows of you. An empty voice is the only one who completes
My thought patterns. Otherwise,
They spiral and spiral and spiral…
You slithered out the salty sea, while I slept soundless in the bay.
You withered on the windowsill, the atmosphere dimmed into gray.
You splintered on my hardwood floor, I lost your fragments in the fray.
You wintered in my hapless heart, and now I fear you're here to stay.
