Spring
As Summer fades into Autumn and the
green leaves morph into crumpled things in stark shades of
Blood and rust and decay
The stifling heat cools down in soft breezes that turn
harsh, almost, as the wind picks up, pulling said leaves
Off the tall trees that
Tower above our meager selves and the
Sun goes away to sleep like the bears do like I do when the
Snow falls down from the empty gray sky and coats the ground in melted slush and I
Don’t seem able to rise up from my bed as I
wade around in a thick sludge while everyone else seems to be swimming through
Perfectly clear waters as I drown
In my own self
In the empty, gray cold of the ice that coats the earth
That marks, for others,
Gifts and family and new beginnings but not for me
And all I have left to hold on to is the hope that
Spring will eventually return after weeks and months
Of cold that envelops me but still I push on because
Like the flowers and the sun and the melted ice
Spring will return perhaps
Someday
And all we can do until then is hope
