Spring

Wide from winter, spring doth leap

with warm and excited bounds.

Old man winter lowers his head,

as she completes her rounds.

Spreading color and cheer about

in flowers and bird sounds.

She wakes the heart of the wild horse

and with strong hooves, the earth he pounds.

She bites at all the creatures

and from them young abound,

but as she lingers for a while we see

the seasonal clock is tightly wound.

There is a cold bite to the air,

and as snow blankets the ground:

to winter spring must return

is what we all have found.
