The S.S. Anderson

With a flash, the screen now glows.

Glowing with what I can only call a dream.

Glowing with colors whirling together,

to become what I can only describe as genius.

I am enveloped in it's warm light,

which draws me into its message.

Upon the screen is my classroom,

my textbook, my tutorial, my guide.

Moving pictures are across it's surface,

telling me stories of love, loss, and adventure.

This particular story is instantly recognizable,

for its unique style gave me a reason to dream.

With theme of yellow and green,

the film is shot with a safe balance of the character's positions in mind.

Quirky characters that drive the story.

Two kids, on an adventure through a forest of innocence,

looking for freedom, while I study their true driving force to flee.

Moonrise Kingdom, the first chapter in my encyclopedia of film.

A DVD later I'm knee deep in the struggles of an estranged family.

Red clothes vs blue clothes scream at me through an expressive wardrobe.

A cigarette stuck between her teeth hints to a deeper narrative,

beckoning the viewer to question her motive.

The accurate shot balance, expressing a divided family.

Chapter two: The Royal Tenenbaums.

The author of this encyclopedia guides me through

what it takes to write a compelling narrative,

what it takes to visually tell a story.

An author I owe the discovery of my greatest passion to,

who coaxed it out of me through desiring to understand more:

Wes Anderson, a genius of a filmmaker.

By observing his works of art,

through watching his incredible films,

I have learned life lessons,

I have learned to develop a creative style,

I have been taught what drives emotion.

This made me desire to take the wheel.

In return I will write my own encyclopedia to the world,

giving someone else the chance to learn what he has taught me,

but I can't honor him enough for his genius.

So Wes, my captain, guiding the fleet of genius,

thank you for inspiring me,

thank you for helping grow through your work.
