Stage Right, Stage Left

Exit stage right,
That was dreadful
again, I will cry all night

Months of hard work
Flushed down the drain
then, Trapped, with a cork.

I will try once again next year
Though, the effort may be futile
I'll Promise not to shed one more tear!

All that time spent on another fail..
a waterless well in place of my heart
which cannot be filled with an insignificant pail

Dreams crushed then mended,
again and again.
Like a garden, not well tended.

This is the last time
I've practiced until well polished
Surely this mountain is worth the climb

I pick out a dress
smear on lipstick
after all,m I dress to impress

I breathe in deep
Then open the heavy door,
My heart takes a shuddering leap!

Waiting backstage
in the dark bulky curtains
The pianist turns his page.

Fear again commits petty theft
then it's my cue to come forward
and then, I enter stage left.
