Stand
Hey you,
You stood by today
I promised I never would but you did
Because every time I see a wrong in this world
I ignore it
I can’t not see anymore
Because when you saw that guy get pushed against a cold locker
You bowed your head
Not because you couldn’t do anything
But you wouldn’t
You stood by today
When that woman begged you for help
Not with her mouth but with her eyes
You averted yours
Because it’s not your place
Because when you were born there was nothing different about you
Because you are not a savior
Why can’t you be just one person’s savior
What is wrong with only saving one life
A hero does not have to stand for everyone
You stood by today
When the man who did nothing wrong was shot down
When you could have screamed or cried
Or at least held him as he left
But you didn’t
You turned a corner and forgot
You stood by today when that locker was slammed against
When you saw his pain
When you did nothing
Now there is nothing you can do
Because he is gone
Because instead of condoling
You left
And when that boy put a gun to his head
He didn’t see you, begging him to stay
No
He saw nothing
You stood by today
But you never had to
And now you can’t change what happened yesterday
You stood by today
You watched as a woman loved another
You watched as a man hurt her for it
You didn’t pound against him with your weak fists
Because they are weak
Because they can do nothing
But weak is not nothing
You stood by today
But do you even remember
Do you remember
The boy against the locker
The woman with the panicked eyes
The man who did nothing wrong
The woman who loved another
Why don’t you fight for them
You are a hero
But only if you raise your voice
But what does it matter
If you only stand by
I can’t not see anymore
And you know me
What if I was that boy
The one who couldn’t see you
Begging him to stay
Would you have said something then?
So why not now
I can’t not see anymore
Signed
Me
