Stand Up

Protesting is your right,

a privilege, a gift.

You want to make a point

to try to cause a shift.

But the field is your office

despite how fun the game can be,

When the fans pay your salary

it's still your job, you see.

Peaceful or not

if I protest at work,

in an office environment

I'm considered a jerk.

And NFL you've chosen

a standard that's double,

one that could eventually

lead to some trouble.

Your manual says

all players should stand

facing the flag with helmet in hand.

If Tebow was 'polarizing'

but Kaepernick 'unifying'

then really, media,

what are you implying?

You encourage activism 

when it fits your agenda,

but not when it's 'simple,'

or Christian propaganda?

You say it's not about the flag

but you've chosen the time

we honor our country

and her lives on the line.

So we don't kneel on the field

in total disgrace

for it's not the appropriate 

time or place.

Don't tell me the field's 

the only place you can catch

enough eyes to make your point

or attention to fetch.

You have millions watching

your every move,

you're famous every day

as your Twitter feeds prove.

If it's important to you

and really worth a fight,

show younger ones how to do it,

stand up and do it right.

So stand with respect,

encourage others to do the same,

make your country and your fans

proud every game.
