Stand With Me

Stand with Me Destruction: that is how the story began; ‘twas a cruel, nameless figure, perhaps just one man. How did this one do such harm to so many, giving chaos and sadness to everybody? The world seems so bleak, when such darkness abounds And when hope for salvation, nowhere is found These heinous actions appear all through the news, And nobody’s seeing a way through the blues Loved ones are lost, and still more people die Weeping and wailing, we all more than cry ‘Seems a pit we are in, only deeper to go In a powerful stream, we can’t fight the flow But then we turn off the television and look around Tragedy happened, and that’s not a question But to look in the ashes would be my suggestion For after such trauma we’ve sunk in despair And blinded ourselves with inaction and prayer In the wake of destruction, we don’t find desolation, But people who’ve swarmed, and promote restoration Strangers, and neighbors, and friends all alike Have gathered to shelter, to give, and to fight We know we cannot go through this life alone Through time beyond record we always have shown When bad guys, or mad guys, or those doing harm Come stomping and tromping and bringing us down We gather, connecting, and strengthening bonds Forgetting our borders, like mountains or ponds For they matter less than a natural love, We feel for each other, without help from above No matter the number of apples gone bad, Or figures in power who make others sad Look away from the scandal, spun stories half-true And you will see others, gath’ring with you For our power is great, when we all stand together Through trials and struggles, we all lift each other And no matter the darkness which us does pursue You’ll always have me, and I’ll always have you
