Stand With Me
They always comment on the weight
They always comment on the acne
"I can connect the dots on your face!"
"You're too curvy to be athletic"
"You're too fat to run a marathon"
"Just suck it in a little
And it'll make it fit"
The comments do not stop
Not for me,
Not for my sisters,
Not for my friends
The comments will not stop
Until we all achieve perfection
When we are all a size two
Looking like a barbie
But that cannot be
I am not artificial
I will not endure plastic surgery
I must stand stall
I will not strive for who I can never be
I will not sit still
And look pretty
I shall instead inspire
I shall be fierce
Fighting against this ever growing desire
To become dolls in human bodies
Women, we must fight back
Not with protests
Not with riots
But with silent confidence
We must spark a fire
A fire of confidence
That will spread
And spread
And spread
Until it has reached every woman
In every corner of the world
We must stand up
Not for ourselves
But for every woman after us
For our little girls
For the teens who binge on the daily
For the ladies who work out till they drop
For the ones who starve until that scale reads
"Finally made it to skinny"
We must stand for each other
We must spark a flame
That will never die
That can never be blown out
It is time to stop being petty
It is time to stop believing the myth
That we all must be a size two
Perfect definition of pretty
It is time to instead lift each other up
There is no time to give into society
We must act now
We must save what little we have left
Before the light fades away
What will we have then?
What will we have once we give in?
There will be no more matches
To spark a flame
We will have all signed up
Headed to the end of natural
Walking straight towards artificial
Standing in lines to become fake dolls
"Throw away beauty,
Welcome perfection"
Women, we must act now
This is becoming reality
Can you not see?
Join in with me
Stand for the cause of beauty
Of embracing the natural
And throwing away artificial
Let me light the flame
I'll gladly strike the match
But it will soon fade into the night
If we do not use all our might
To fight for this cause.
