Stand for the Voiceless

We stood.
We stood in the streets,
On the courthouse steps,
In the park,
By the church.
We stood.

We stood to tell a story
Of people who have no voice.
They have no voice because they are kept up,
Locked away,
Hidden,
Imprisoned.

They are the slaves.
The slaves of our past worked in the fields;
The slaves of today, work in the dark,
In the quiet of the night,
In the secret of the back alleys.

Without hope of escape,
They are used,
Beaten,
Broken.

They are the reason we stand.
We stand,
We speak,
We find a way to bring them out.
Out of the darkness,
Chains,
Fear.
Into the light of freedom.

We stand to tell their story,
I write to make their voices heard,
You read and can no longer be blind.
Stand.
Stand with us.
