Standing Alone

Fri, 06/21/2019 - 21:22 -- JMK3363

At one point, just a small insignificant

Freshman trying to find their place

In the sea of people. Whispers from peers

Planted doubt and anxiety, only to increase

The feelings of isolation.

“Will I ever fit it?” she thinks

To herself.

A sophomore finally figuring out herself among

The crowds. They know her

Name with easy familiarity. She enjoys

The friendships and leans on them for

Support. Their presence provides comfort

When days get rough.

“They would never leave me,” she thinks

To herself.

Chaos and relationships occur for a hopeful

Junior. Little did she know the struggles that came

With the year. Slowly the support began to

Crumble. Focused on the path ahead but feeling

Unbalanced.

“Why won’t they help?” she thinks

To herself.

The finish line is in sight for an independent senior.

The friends once there have gone away, but goals have been reached.

Although alone, she is not lonely.

Acceptance and discovery allowed her to grow.

“I survived,” she thinks

To herself.

The people may have faded but I still remain.

Stronger and wiser to know:

It is not always a bad thing to be

Standing alone.
