Standing Still

You can not see me the way that I am

you can not see my outstretching hand

you can not see how I’m falling apart

how every word is a blade in my heart

all you can see is the image I paint

You can’t see the effort in each smile that I make

you can’t see my hands as I tremble in fear

you can’t hear my heart as it beats in my ear

to you I am strong like a mountain at times

but you can’t hear my knees as they rattle like chimes

you see me stand still as though there’s nothing to fear

while locked behind walls are my oceans of tears

if you learned what I’d been through you’d never believe

but I’m still standing still as your eyes clearly see
