Starless Night

The gloomy dark night distends my heart full of fright.

No stars in the sky, way up in their height.

And it’s now that they will strike.

In the air was death and nothing more.

The men scream and run in sight of this beast.

With burning red eyes and fire in the east.

When he spoke to all the people,

“In the air, there’s death and nothing more.”

You could hear the screams of all the people,

Or were they spirits? Now to the steeple!

O even there you could tell,

In the air was death and nothing more.

Burning all around! But the night’s still young!

The taste of ashes pierces my tongue.

And so we cry to Him,

In the air was death and nothing more.

A man with eyes of fire looks straight at me.

So I then run into the fiery sea.

And I look up to a starless night

And in the air is death and no more.
