In the Stars

True love looks past the scars on my face;

it doesn’t assume I’m always okay.

When I fly, you, love, are my wings,

and when I tumble to the earth,

you’re there to catch me.

At the crimson gleam of sunset

true love is waking for the night,

but it also lies in the little child with her grinning, hopeful eyes.

True love is full of passion—

it gives and gives without trying to take;

always open, breathing lungs

that forgive no matter how much pride is at stake.

Just because I love you,

doesn’t mean our smiles never fade,

but after tearing one another down

we doctor up our wounds with grace.

True love is not the answer

to our ever-wandering hearts;

it isn’t always perfect,

but it lasts forever in the stars.
