Stars and Smiles

Dirt trapped underneath fingernails

the stickiness on your face after a dog licks it clean

the tired, tired moment when you slip

into bed and feel the covers settle.

Gritty sand between your toes

and the wind fighting your hair.

Giving into the urge to turn cartwheels

In the green, green, grass.

The sugary goodness of a milkshake

cooling your  throat,

the goosebumps that come when

something brings tears to your eyes.

Laughing until you can’t breathe

but you still can’t stop.

Watering plants as you

watch them soak, soak up the sunlight.

A plane that flies overhead,

full of people in transition,

going somewhere.

Always watch the little things

they’re what life is made up of.

Stars and smiles.
