The Stars, Like Dust

My crime is ambition;

I reach for the stars

No matter the cost, no matter the bars

Sometimes I get lost.

They say you can’t reach light speed

I try anyway; I never believed them

Probably never will

No matter how many times I fail.

I pile on, dig in, prepare

For a long siege

I won’t quit while the quitting’s good.

I run into the burning building

And am surprised when I get scorched.

And I thought I was the sensible one!

I don’t know how to stop

Say no, go home

I’m so afraid of wasting time, I never have any.

That’s funny; if you don’t want to waste

Money, you don’t spend every dollar.

You save. I spend time recklessly

And am surprised when I run out.

I wish I could quit while I’m ahead

I wish I were ahead.

I wish the stars were dead.

I wish I could get out

Of my head.
