The start of something new

The start of something new, the day it all changed

I woke up one morning, and the day felt strange

I got in the shower, got out and got dressed

Combed out my hair , so it wasn’t a mess

I’m walking out the door, getting ready for school

When i saw something drip, I thought it was cruel

I cried and I cried, as I thought i broke my private

But then I realized it was my period, and I got excited

I was finally a woman, because of what I got

then my mom told me 40 years of this, I cried and I fought
