Statue of Liberty

I AM the Statue of Liberty.

I AM strong.

I AM beautiful.

I AM the face of independence.

I AM a gift to the world.

Storms may come, yet I AM still standing.

Many admire my existence.

Some may ask “She’s still here?”

Yes. I AM.

I AM a voice without needing to be heard.

My hand held high close enough to reach God. He lights the flame I hold.

O This little light of mine, I will enlighten others who follow.

By the grace of God, I will show them the way.

And even though it may seem as if I am standing high on my pedestal, My feet are constantly in motion.

My mom always told me, “Keep your head held high so your crown won’t fall off”

This is why I AM always looking ahead to the future wearing my crown. Ready to face anything.

With 7 spikes, I represent the world. 7 seas, 7 continents, that my God made in 7 days.

Yes, me. A woman. A Black woman.

And held close to me are my founding principles. The laws at which I stand.

My values, morals, and beliefs. Together they form my keystone.

A keystone is a stone that keeps everything together.
