Steady and True

The man that means so much to me

I have never with my own eyes seen.

He died long before I was even born

After a life of struggle heroically borne.

This man was a captive and then a slave

His love and life he freely gave.

He struggled as shepherd, barely surviving,

When given his freedom he returned home to thriving.

But he felt God's call to serve His people

To baptize, educate and anoint the feeble.

He faced many trials and always prevailed

"Give God the glory," is what he hailed!

He challenged false gods while trusting in his

He showed firmness and mercy and a joy that still lives.

This saint has inspired me to be my own man,

To own my struggles and do what I can.

He is Patron of Ireland and I took him as my own

He is the Saint of my Confirmation, by me well known.

He is a man steady and true and admired by me

For he shows me how to live with dignity.

St. Patrick
