Steady Are The Gods
Slain was the religion of 1000 BCE,
Fallen and crumbled the temples lay,
Untouched and unhoused,
The gods have fell from grace,
Now they are walking dead.
Zeus sits in bars,
His thoughts don’t reach his eyes,
Women reach for their sides,
Pepper spray close behind.
Apollo and Artemis chase yesterday,
The sun and moon have long forgotten them,
They’ll never catch them,
There always one day behind.
Aphrodite scoffs at an open car window,
Obscenities flow from it,
Romance was gentle and caring,
Cats pray for their calls back now.
People will always believe in death,
Hades smirks at his wife,
Blooming in vengefulness and beauty,
They have beaten his brothers finally.
Shore to shore Poseidon wanders,
The oceans depths sit undiscovered,
Trash still lines the surface,
Tides are made of plastic and cigarette butts,
He’s traded his trident for a trash bag.
The gods sit in anticipation,
The gods can’t move on,
Frozen in time,
Steady are the gods.
