Steady Beat

We are all born

with just one thing

the steady beat of our heart, pumping away.

It beats strong, until it couldn't go on a second longer.

For some, this comes soon. A few hours, a few days, a few years.

If your heart beat longer, then you get more things.

A home. Clothes. Food. Friends. Family.

These things will stay will stay with you

until they can't a second longer.

But someday, all of these things will be gone.

Nobody gets to keep their things

when their steady beat stops.

Unless you find another person

Another little lost human being

Whose steady beat matches yours.

Those people are hard to find.

Not everyone meets their someone.

But everyone is desperate to find them.

They are a truth

In a world of so many lies.

You must be careful

While you search for them.

Because some beats simply don't fit.

Some beats don't match

Some beats aren't steady at all

We all end our lives

With just one thing

A steady beat, pumping away in our chest

But some of us find another beat

That guides us, till the end.
