Steady Companion

Poetry

Was always there

Whether the darkness was

Or wasn’t

Whether family was

Or wasn't

Poetry

Provides a light

To scare the darkness away

Or it drapes me in a blanket

Of black

And we scoot close

In the dark

Together

And I feel less

Alone

Sometimes I feel things

I don’t know how to say

But poetry can say it for me

It can tell others for me

It can give me the words

I don’t have

When I write

I open the bottle

That I have shut tight

And will not open for others

I will spill it on the page

And paint the contents

For all to see

And they will know

It’s beautiful

Poetry

My steady companion

In an ever changing world
