Steady Hands

I feel your steady hand on the back of my seat,

reassuring me that although the pavement is dilapidated,

I will not have to fear falling down.

I pedal faster and am pleased to hear your cheers of approval.

I feel your steady hand let go of the back of my seat,

telling me that although I am afraid,

I can do this on my own.

I look back with apprehension,

but am comforted to see the grin that crinkles your eyes.

I feel the pleasure of my success coursing through both of us equally,

because our love for one another made this happen.

I feel your steady hand on my shoulder,

telling me that although times are tough,

I will not have to fear the upcoming struggle.

I cry harder and am soothed to hear your words of hopefulness.

I feel your steady hand smooth my hair down,

telling me that although I am afraid,

we will work on this together.

I look up with trepidation,

but am consoled with the feeling of your soft embrace.

I feel the contentment of security coursing through both of us equally,

because our love for one another made this happen.

I feel your steady hand on my back,

telling me that although it was a hard decision to make,

I will no longer have to fear being alone.

I laugh jubilantly and am relieved to hear that you said yes to him.

I feel your steady hand on my hand,

telling me that although I am afraid,

I will work on this with him.

I look up with determination,

and am ecstatic to see the smirk of satisfaction on your face.

I feel the joy of your approval coursing through both of us equally,

because our love for one another made this happen.

I feel your steady hand on my stomach,

telling me that although this will be difficult,

I will no longer have to fear being a good mother.

I shrug nervously, but am glad to hear your words of confidence.

I feel your steady hand on my face,

telling me that although I am afraid,

I will work on this with him.

I look up with complacency,

and am pleased to see the excitement pulling at your lips.

I feel the delight of our eagerness coursing through both of us equally,

because our love for one another made this happen.

I feel your steady hand on my face,

telling me that despite the pain,

I will no longer have to fear it, because she is finally here.

I cry happily and am elated to see her eyes peer up at me.

I see your steady hands take hold of the small bundle,

whispering that although I am afraid,

we will work on this together.

I look up with happiness,

and am thrilled to hear the excitement lifting your voice.

I feel the enthusiasm coursing through both of us equally,

because our love for one another made this happen.

I feel your steady hand on my knee,

telling me that although you are sick,

I will no longer have to fear the unknown, because your path is set.

I grieve loudly and am enraged to see the pain in your eyes.

I feel your steady hand lift my chin,

telling me that although I am afraid,

we will work on this together.

I look up with anguish,

and am tormented to imagine the day I will not see your smile.

I feel the hope coursing through both of equally,

because our love for one another will help us through this.

I place my steady hand on the back of her seat,

telling her that although the training wheels are gone,

she will not have to fear falling down.

She pedals faster and I am pleased to see her conviction.

I remove my steady hand from the back of her seat,

and tell her not to be afraid,

because she can do this on her own.

I look on with uneasiness,

but am pleased to hear her cries of joy.

I feel the contentedness of her success coursing through both of us equally,

because our love for one another made this happen.
